The Bucks County Opportunity Council wishes to remind Bucks County residents that a FREE federally funded Home Energy Conservation Program audit is available until March of 2012. In order to qualify for this service, the combined income of all household members must not exceed 200% of the federal poverty level. For example, a two person household must have earned $29,420 or less in the past year, while a four person household must have earned $44,700 or less. Single-family homes, duplexes, apartments, subsidized housing, condos, mobile homes, and both renters and homeowners are eligible. Once the client is approved, a trained Energy Auditor will analyze the entire home to determine the best method of weatherization. Then, a contractor will be assigned to perform the recommended work. The most common areas that are tackled include sealing gaps, installing insulation, repairing duct work, maximizing the efficiency of the heating system, and improving the effectiveness of household appliances, but each home may be different. This service offers the chance for low income households to reduce their energy burden and live in a more comfortable home all year round. And, above all, the service is FREE to residents of Bucks County who qualify!
